DigitalTutors - Textured Forest Creature

Over the weekend I finished watching the Enhancing Your Concepts with Textures in Photoshop tutorial set by Kurt Jones on DigitalTutors. I think I learnt a fair bit, not just in the technical parts of wielding Photoshop, but also the logic of how to go about layering detail, working in tone/value and fleshing out colour later. I liked Kurt's approach and he was easy to listen to for all those lessons, except I do find it odd that Americans like to say "go ahead" alot!

The final image of the highly textured forest protector is so lush and it is a treat for us to see in detail how Kurt took his initial shaded sketch through all of the steps to arrive at such a good place. I am keen to give all of these techniques a try on my next Loch Dreagan image, though the texture complexity wont be as high, maybe adding some layers of complexity will add depth to the next image for me.

Here are a few images from the series, showing the evolution of the piece - highly recommended!
